Best cheap mic for a bass cab

Try a Sennheiser E602 on bass guitar cabs. The EQ is more natural than the D112/B52/D6 like options that are EQ'd for a kick drum. Cost is cheaper too, new. $160-170

Not very often. You will notice I didn't recommend any 1000 dollar mics either. Most of your best options for a bass amp, cost no object, are right around half that.

I do see plenty of C414's. That's about a 1000 dollar mic.

I'm rezzing this thread to see if there have been any advances in the cheap mic world. Everyone and their brother is recording stuff in their homes for YouTube so I'm wondering if there is a go-to mic for the the cheap skates that don't want to dump $200 on a mic for something that doesn't pay.

I normally use a D112, but before Christmas, I gave a cheap Shure PG-52 a test run, and was pleasantly surprised. Solid build, and the scoop was easily removed by pointing it at the edge of the cone.

the game has indeed changed. $100US Akg P2 is full range for bass, pretty darn flat in response and copes with high SPL.

It requires a $2 3/8" to 5/8" steel adaptor so you don't require the 5/8" plastic threads in the inbuilt mic clip. The plastic strips out very easily, then it's burgered.

Fully gig worthy.

MF is out of stock, Amazon is almost out, and there aren't a lot on Ebay. I'm guessing, but if they aren't discontinued, AGK is between production cycles.

Thomman has stock and it's still front and centre at Akg www. Snaffle one from Amazon, you won't be disappointed.

Akg p2 is fairly new. I bought one. It reproduces the sound of my svt into a fridge very well. I have also tossed it in front of the kick drum with great results. FYI you do not have to buy an adapter as the smaller thread insert is removable and the mic then fits the bigger mic stand threads.

sure is a winning mic aside from those plastic large threads, very easy to cross thread and chew on them a little before realising the error, now chewed they are harder to get on correctly leading to more chewing events. Just get the 3/8 to 5/8 converter for $2!

I bought a short stand that is permanently attached to the mic. Doesn't make sense for me to remove and reattach all the time.
