Best cheap single cutaway bass out there?

I've only been playing bass for a year or so now, and I'm wanting to try out a single cutaway bass, but im not sure of which to try. Any suggestions?

Check out Spear basses I know they do very affordable basses with single cuts bad if you like the style it might work out for you

Gets my vote too. I have already ordered one. Adding a coil splitter for the MM pickup. You won't find another one of this quality at this price. Mine will be in Natural (ash). Ordered mine from Donovan at fretspot.com. he'll work with you on the price. Just ask.

These are 34" scale but the way it's constructed makes it really easy and comfortable to play. When I took my Brute MJX-5 to a gig the soundman though it was a short scale bass as the neck attached deeper into the body. Brubaker has a patented bolt through construction where the neck actually attaches deeper into the bass body. Kinda like a hybrid bolt on/neck through type of deal. Sustain for days. And this is no lie. Ask any Brute owner about the sustain on their brutes and they will all say the same thing. You should check one out.

I'm not bashing the telecaster but when you look at the brute and the telecaster you can tell they are two completely different instruments. The telecaster looks like a novelty item and the Brute looks like a more serious instrument IMO. Two different basses, two different price points. One by a mass producer of basses, the other designed and backed by a custom luthier.

depends on how cheap you want to go. Epiphone makes a few LP style for under $300 and Ibanez has the GARTB20 which I think is under $200? Short-scale, if that's your thing.

Oh, and also short-scale LP style is the Gretsch Electromatic Junior Jet.

34" scale, instead of 32" on the Squier Telecaster, and a modern P style shaped neck (with vintage open gear tuners) on new models instead of the stylish headstock with Gotoh tuners, pictured here

But there's a low point here...
Configuration is very much like an Epiphone EB3, except that bridge pickup (more like fender modern player telecaster bass) sports single polepieces unalligned with strings, so that if A and D are nearly there, E and G strings are far away from the magnetic field...
So, as on Fender Modern Player Telecaster, the job is one by the neck humbucker only

I believe the poster wanted inexpensive... which doesn't often collide with good in the same sentence.
