Best combo's for the money.

There's alot of posts on combo's. "which is the best" and bla, bla, bla..

Here is all you need to know! IMO.:smug:

For the money, size and out put you can't go wrong with the Ashdown Mag300 combo or the Yorkville XM200 combo. Both great little amps that can cover a small to mid size gig, with great tone. Both in 115 or 210 and between $400-$500.


If you don't have $400 for a new amp and just need to get the job done get a used Peavey 115 combo for a couple hundred, it's a work horse that can take a beating. Tone and weight not so great but it'll gett'er done.

P.S. the next question is "210's or 115?". If you play smaller gig's and like clear tone get 210's if you play mid size gig's and need some more tump get the 115.

I agree with you about the Yorkville and what you say in general. I haven't used the Ashdown live so I can't comment on it, but the Yorkville worked well for me for a year. Little bit cumbersome with that silly single handle on top but that's common with many amps in that range. Surprising amount of sound from such a relatively low powered amp.

The Yorkville is a bargain in both Canada and the USA.

I dont know about the ashdown 300mag because i never owned one, played one, or seen one as a matter of fact. But i do have the yorkville xm200t (210 config). And its done its job very well. Very Hissy because of the tweeter but you can turn that off. I used a vintage fender P-bass once before and it was bothersome. Now I play a SX jazz copy and the hiss is lower, but crank it up past 3 and you will hear it. Mind you 2 is really loud in my room i never really go past 1 or else my neighbors will complain.

Another thing is that is totally heavy and doesnt have wheels. I didnt buy the carpet version because i thought it would attract cat & dog hairs and or become a large scratching post for the cat... so therefore i have the ultrathane finish and if your carrying it it might rip your skin. Mind you my frame is small i wiegh only like 123 pounds 5'7. And this thing wieghs about 65 pounds. cant really use the handle if you want to carry it unless you want to wobble with it on your thiegh... i have to pick it up like from the bottom like a gaint box. OH well im just being a wuss, i need put on some muscle anyway.

If the Ashdown 300mag produces the same quality of tones and is loud as the yorkville. I would probably would have bought the ashdown head and separate cabs if i had known better, for better portability +added flexiblity. As i recall the yorkville folks only offer the XM200 series as a combo only.

Besides that im pretty happy with the yorkville 200watter. Just goes to show, its the sound in the end that matters the most. hehe just wondering if an extension cab aka. yorkville 115C is worth it. Or maybe i should just sell my combo and start from scratch again...hmm

the yorkie (IMO) is a cleaner sound then the Ashdown's 60's/70's sound. I like them both vary much.

I think the 115 cabnet will bump the wattage in the Yorkie it runs under 200w until the ex cabnet is added. I think the Ash is the same, running under 300w until it's loaded with another cabnet.


Both great all around combo's
