Best connection setup for SVT-4 to 2 cabs?

Hi all,
I ran into some major overheating issues at a gig this weekend, so I am looking for some advice on the best setup.

I have an Ampeg SVT-4, and run it to an Avatar 2.12 and 2.10. I was running the mono bridge through a speakon to the 2.12, then running a 1/4" from the 2.12 to the 2.10. The amp would cut out in the middle of a song, starting about 30 minutes into the show.

I realized when I got home that the stereo/mono button was switched to stereo, so my guess is that the problem was there.

I play in a reggae band, so I'm wondering what the best setup is to get the most power to the cabs. Should I keep it as mono bridged with the current setup now that the switch is set to mono, or try Dual Mono, Biamp: Full Range/Lows, or Biamp: Highs/Lows?

if you have two 8 ohm Avatars, then you can run them in parallel in mono...... if they will take it. Seems that most Avatar cabs are available either 4 or 8 ohm, so......

Running stereo when wired mono could indeed tend to overheat the amp. The "other" channel is just idling, not actually driven, and has to soak up all that current... That heats it up pretty fast, much more so than if it was actually putting out power.

You might have gotten some extra distortion as well.
