Best cost efficient wireless system for active pickups

Does your upgrade need to be pedal board mountable?
I'm not sure going to as 2.4/5G combo will be flawless...
Does it HAVE to be? No, I can figure out another way. But, since I usually use a pedal board, it makes that form factor a very appealing option. FWIW, I used its predecessor, the GLXD16, for couple of years and it never had an issue. That being said, I do get that 2.4 GHz band is only getting more crowded and what hasn't yet been a problem could likely become one in the near future.

I'm not aware of other pedal board wireless systems that operate on something other than 2.4 and 5.8 GHz, but I'm all ears if you know of any. :)
 
While I can’t speak to Southeast Asia, location in the US makes all the difference.
The same open frequencies (other than 2.4G, 5.8G, 900Mhx and ISM bands) we get to use unlicensed are SHARED with local TV stations.
Getting the correct unit/band is CRITICAL to effective use of wireless, so you don’t get blocks, dropouts and other artifacts.
Check the doc in my sig..it goes into all that and explains how to choose.
I have IEM, bass and mic all wireless and picked the units with frequencies that work best in my area… no issues at all.

any thoughts for electric upright bass? I’ve got a wonderful BSX active electronics and being upright can’t use the “transmitter on strap” approach. Thx

“Cost efficient” is a term that can lead you into paying more and having issues. The cheapest wireless is the one that works well enough that you never have to upgrade. Beware of “cost effective” units - those are often poor investments, as they won’t work well for the long haul.

It’s also not just the band a wireless is in - it’s how smart the system is at avoiding interference. I’d trust a Shure GLX on 2.4 GHz more than most other units, no matter what band they use.

Sorry no..but I'd suspect the same rules apply as suggested in the post you replied to.
The uprights I setup on stage have all been direct wired to snake or mixer.

ANYTHING on 2.4G today is prone to interference, even the auto-sensing devices out there like the GLX.
I used Sennheiser's 2.4G auto-sensing (pick the best open 2.4 channel) for a number of years. It worked great for a few yrs, but as 2.4G became more prevalent at venues providing in-house internet and with every cell phone seeking a Wi-Fi network to connect to, I started getting glitches and dropouts.
Moved into the 400-608Mhz band devices. Now my bass, IEM's and mic are all in that range and not a single issue in the last 2 yrs in a major metro area.

For any unit to be reliable, it needs a way to avoid interference - picking a “good” band is using “hope” as your strategy, and hope isn’t a strategy. If you take the time to learn how a GLXD is able to avoid interference, you’d realize why my statement makes sense, and yours doesn’t.

GLXD has 3 channels operating at all times. With any 2, you’ll never hear interference. So, if it gets interference on a channel, it moves that channel, and you don’t hear any issues. A dumb unit, on any frequency, when it gets hit, you hear it. The GLXD is better in contested spectrum than most units are in less contested bands. It’s smarter. Shure also has really smart high end units - Axient, for example. There’s a reason the NFL refs use Shure gear - it’s not the band they use, it’s the smarts that make the biggest difference.

For dumb units, 2.4 is a bad place to be. Yes, that’s true, but today any frequency is a bad place to be with a dumb unit.[/QUOTE]

I have the cheapest wireless Shure makes and its just fine. The criteria I had was... can it use rechargeable double A batteries? Does it have more than 1 useable channel? Yep they pretty much all do. Will it transmit far enough? Well Im not playing 100 yards into the crowd and the receiver is behind me..so... good there. Frequency response seems to be good nuff! Price is right. If I have any issues, its just a matter of pluggin in a cord and Im golden. I see little reason for the average person to crank out 2 grand for a wireless for anything less than stadium work. You're mileage may vary.

You had bad luck with a Sennheiser 2.4 GHz unit, and assumed a Shure unit would have the same issue. I explained to you that the Shure units are indeed different - they are much more capable at moving out of the way of interference in real time.
