Best DI ?

I have a bass pod which to be honest i have not been happy with since i got it. Far to much stuff in there for me, and also it has a weird distortion going on in the background on most of the preset patches. I want to get rid and get a simple DI unit that has maybe a few features, like compressor etc. Any advice on which unit is best. I noticed in this months Sound On Sound mag something called a 'Bass Buddy' looks just like what i want, but dont know much abou these things. It will be used just for recording. Cheeers Guys.

I use and would recommend the G/T brick and a Sansamp RBI.

Go getcha a Radial DI...any flavor will do...just make sure its loaded with Jenson's.

i'd recommend a sansamp bddi but it doesn't have a compressor in it. still, it's worth checking out. i actually sold my bass podxt after purchasing the sansamp. i was in the same situation as you, too much stuff on the pod, not entirely happy with the sounds. check it out. you'll find a TON of love for the sansamp in these parts.

I have a Radial JDI that sounds great. Jensen transformer. Just a DI though. No compressor or anything.

I have a PodXT that I'm not really digging. I'm trying, but it's just not my thing. I am thinking PreSonus. I love the compressor, and the Tube PRE and EQ3B are supposed to b epretty good as well.

If you can say for sure that you will have a soundman that knows how to mix well, than I say the Radials that have been suggusted would be fine. However, if you go into places where you are not quite sure, I suggest the Hartke Attack pedal. Mine is a mainstay even with our good soundman. I got mine at American Music Supply for $70. However, the only thing is that the shape/freq. knob should be near or at max. which is 1khz this taylors the all important mids. The mix & harmonics at about 10:00 which gives a warm tube like sound. It has an eq. as well, but use sparingly as the above mentioned features do most of the trick. I get complments about my sound, which is cool because I use other bassist's amps alot. The sound man starts out with a good sound with this set up. I have also used tube DI's and they sound great, but most cost about $450 on up.

if you're looking for a DI with different features on it, you're probably going to have to go sith something like a bbe DI 1000, or something similar...most DI's are just that, and nothing more...if you check basstasters.com, you'll see that (todd) vanselus (a member here) has reviewed several DI's at several different price points...check there, bro...there's several different flavors there, all of which, i think seem pretty good
