i really need an opinion about the best di (tube or not ,until 200$)the reason about the price is about moving gigs and i think it's better if you have something cheap and small.thanks a lot!!

I'd recommend doing a search on the sansamp bddi and Mxr M80, they're popular around these parts and both have their good and bad points. there's plenty of information here- you'll probably read a load about the sansamp scooping the sound too much, (stick an eq pedal before it) It's always sounded best to me with a p-bass. I liked the mxr when I tried it but the Distortion sound wasn't for me.

if you're looking for a DI with some EQ, tone-shaping, and/or overdrive, then check out the Sansamp or the MXR M80.

if you're looking for a good DI that doesn't change your tone at all and just does its job extremely well, check out the Radial JDI. noise-free, built like a tank, doesn't introduce any noise into your signal.

If you just want a real good DI box for going into a system, try some of Radial's boxes. They are found on about 10x the professional rigs as anything else (In the sub $200 range). By professional I mean people like Billy Sheehan, Tony Levin, Will Lee, John Patitucci, Chuck Rainey, Nathan East, even Victor Wooten on occasion.

The Bassbone will be about $220, but even some of their straight DI's pass better tone than anything else in that $ range.

IMO...the Seymour Duncan Paranormal is a great little Pre/DI as well...they sell for about $140 new.

I wish it had a volume control, but it sounds really good and clean (again IMO)

If you are looking for the purest sound from your bass to the board in a moderately priced, small unit:

For active basses (basses with preamps)... Radial JDI... period!!! The best! $179 shipped from Musician's Friend.

For passive basses..... Countryman DI... period.. industry standard.

IMO and IME.

Cheap, small and durable for live use...my choice is the JDI.
