I find this extremely disturbing in many ways
The one ISB (2009) I went to I felt generally underwhelmed by most of the instruments. A big part of that feeling was that at the time I was basically a pizz only player and most of the instruments were set up for arco playing.
When I finally came across a bass that blew me away it was this one:
Gilkes Bass
And then I found out it was $110,000. I still don't think I've played a bass that impressed me more.
My other favorite instrument that week was Arnold's ergo bass.

At the ISB convention I went to they had a room where you could try out new instruments and vote for your favorite. I also thought they were more set up for arco playing. I could never have afforded the one I picked but I felt good when it turned out that Chuck Israels had picked the same one. He also complained that the set-ups of the instruments were not ideal for pizz playing.
For many years, I've felt that if I were in the market for a new instrument, I would get one from Nick Lloyd, Jean Auray, or Patrick Charton. Granted, I'm not in the market for an instrument, I have a really nice Mirecourt 5/8's and I'm not in a orchestra
