Best effects for a bright sound

About guitar amps, the actual amp is perfectly safe with bass, but it may (will) cut the lower frequencies. The problem is that guitar cabs can't handle bass at decently high volumes (and explode!), so you'd have to use a bass cab with it.
A relatively expensive thing some people do is split the signal and have a bass amp for the low frequencies and a guitar amp for the higher ones.
