Rejuvenation is a lesson in groove from the master, and the Meters cover of Neil Young's "Down By The River" from their Trick Bag album has a groove so deep you need mountaineering gear to get out afterwards!!!

I vote for Rocco as #1 fingerstyle funk bassist. He is funk bass personified He and Jamerson are my main influences. Jamerson was an excellent bassist, extremely tasteful and innovative, but I don't consider him as that funky. Jaco is of course also great and I love his approach letting the bass be much more than only a support to the other instruments. He kinda added one dimension more to the music...

I'm with ya on Rocco and I think that he wrote the book.

Jaco's was more of a groove player. Jaco's groove on Joanie Mitchell's "Coyote" is a study.

I think that Nate Watts from Stevie Wonder's band can get pretty funkay.

Another person who played on both Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway tracks and much much more who is very funkay: Willie Weeks

Another funky bass palyer is Gary King from "Mister Magic" from Grover Washington JR.

Will Lee is another extremely funky player as is Anthony Jackson. (Can somebody say "For The Love of Money"?)

"For the Love of Money" was played with a pick. Anthony Jackson is the greatest pick player in r&b and fusion when he wants to be. Stu Zender is great, but I consider him to basically be a Bernard Edwards clone. Jaco was a phenomenal bassist, and could get funky, but I don't think he was funk bassist at heart.
