Best fingerboard ?

I have another amateur question. I've only been lucky enough to own basses that fall in the $1000 range.
I play mostly hard rock/heavy metal. And with my bass, I find the best tone on my fingerboard is using primarily the B, E, and A strings, and climb up the neck.
Verses using the weaker D & G string.
Any suggestions other than purchasing a better bass?
Anyway I can add a more full tone to D & G strings?
Effects, whatever ?
