Best flatwounds for fretless Sandberg?

I use Ernie Ball Cobalt flats on my Ibanez SR700F.

They have less thump than regular flarwounds, but whatever the cobalt mineral does to the sound is fantastic when I use the piezos.

I highly recommend them.

I've tried Labellas on a Sandberg VM fretted once. I didn't think it worked because of how "modern" the pickups are and the Labellas are too thuddy for that, IMO of course. So I'm assuming something more along the lines of Daddario or Ernie Ball Cobalt flats would work better.

I bought a used 5 string fretted here but ordered by mistake an extra set of La Bella Deep Talking White Gold flats so I was able to try them on my fretless. They are thicker but are flexible and I think lowish on the tension but not as slinky as TI jazz flats which I actually don't dig ). The G is .63 and I love it because it's like putting guts on the D and G of my upright. The white-gold's (really brass) are brighter, even brighter than the Ernie Ball Cobalt flats. So yeah I strung my fretless with these strings and love them, clear but no finger noise and a I have a nice growl or low purr. And if you are into harmonics, you can coach a lot from these unlike regular flat. / It was perfect for my 5 string fretted which I strung E-C for a project I am doing with an acoustic trio

This guy Andres Rotmistrovsky ( I am positive he is originally from Argentina ) - uses La Bella DTF whites and blacks. Check these out for direct to preamp sound.

I took an online course with him, he is great!

The courses are very cheap (they should be more expensive, I really mean it), but they are in spanish. If you understand spanish, I highly recommend it.

I might talk to him. I already play the Hybrid guitar as well (which is 7 string 3 bass and 4 guitar ) so I do a lot of counterpoint already. I can speak Spanish - I talk to my buddy in Buenos Aires almost every week. Although he has a lot of English covers the gems are really the Spanish and Brasilian/Portugues covers and originals.

I love La Bella copper white nylon tapewounds on one my fretless basses. It's a bit weird to see .60 but it feels like .45. They feel reeeeeeeeeeally smooth and sound thick and rounded. Plenty of mwah too.

On my Pentabuzz I kept the nickels but the la Bella's sounded nice on that one too, as you can hear in this video I made for a friend to hear them (usually hidden because I'm just trying out the strings, and not trying to serve the song best lol):

TI jazz flats if you want more high mids (Jaco type mwah)

Labella low tension flats if you want more low mids

I think they are both good on light weight basses due to the low tension, but there are a lot of factors involved.

The only way you'll know what strings you like on a particular bass (not model) is to try them...
Just picked up a fretless Stringray Monday (BFR - talk about light - 6lb 150z!)
I believe it came w/EB Group III flatwounds, which were a good fit, but I just put on EB Cobalt flats last night...
It really opened up the sound - a bit more clarity without being to bright. (with the aid of an LPF)

I've never been concerned about tension, unless there's an known issue with the neck...
Am I missing something?

What kind of sound are you looking for?
I have a fretless Jazz and Rotosound flats work the best out of everything I tried.
I have an acoustic fretless and D'Addario tapewounds work the best on that.

If it's a 4 string, I would vote for light gauge Sadowsky flats. Like LaBellas, but brighter. If it's a 5 string, then TI's.

There are strings that work better on an acoustic bass or a violin bass with a floating bridge and tiny tuners, but I don't see why a set of strings would be better or worse on a solid body fretless. I don't think the lightness of the bass or the thinness of the neck really matter.
