Best for playing RHCP?

Hi everyone

Im new to TalkBass and I dont actually have a bass yet i want to learn rhcp songs because i think fleas basslines sound really good i have $150 to spend on a bass so what bass should i get for 150 or less

Definitely look for something used. For that amount of money, you might be able to find an OLP version of a Music Man Stingray. It's not gonna be in the same league as the real thing, but considering your budget and the desire to cop Flea's vibe, that might be your best bet.

the bass is only playing in less than half of that song.

"can't stop", "snow", "californication", "higher ground", "get up and jump", "give it away", and "dani california" feature much more recognizable bass lines

Some of those are pretty tough though.

I'm assuming that besides learning RHCP songs, you will also learn some of the basic principles and techniques of bass playing.

The OP is either a troll, or a 15 year old. Or a 15 year old troll. He just got his other post removed, where he puts down some youtube bassist. Funny, since he does'nt even own a bass yet (according to this thread).

I get exasperated a little with TB too from time to time, but is there a need to continue making these fake threads just to troll? Isn't there more you can do with your life, like maybe learn to play the Oud? (I see they are having a summer Oud sale...and well, everyone needs an Oud.)

Your budget won't get you very far, but you should be able to find something decent used.

I would stay away from the Fender Precision (and copies of) model for the type of sound you are after.

Instead I'd try for a Jazz probably.

You should be able to get a Squier Jazz with your money.

If you fancy the Musicman Stingray vibe instead, another bass that's been strongly associated with Flea and slap... try to find an OLP (model MM2). It's not active and there are a few significant differences with a real MusicMan Stingray, but it gets you as far as you can be for $150. At some point later, a pickup upgrade (Seymour Duncan alnico SMB4A for $50) would be a nice improvement.

I'd go for a Squier Jazz, personally.
If you are able to find one of the "Classic Vibe" series, they are really very good, but you may not find one for $150.

Yep. Between this and the incessant threads asking what someone's sister should wear or what dildo they found, it's incredibly tired and frustrating.
