Good software isn't cheap
I would probably use open-source, if I could understand it. For me it's like a McDonald's burger-line "cook" walking onto a job site, being handed a blueprint and told to build the house.
So far it's Windows- that's 'configurable' enough.
i keep seeing reaper come up. My big question here is that after a month if you don't pay the 50 does it lock up and doesn't allow access? and if so what about the stuff that you've already recorded?
Final question, I have audacity and everything that I try to record sounds digital. Doesn't sound like my bass at all. I've messed with the frequencies but no luck what so ever (been playing around with it for about a month or so now and it's getting old). If I start using Reaper will I still have this problem and if so how would I fix it? Don't want to upload software to my com just to have to delete it again.

Reaper is not subscription-based - you pay the $50 one time and it's yours to use forever.
True - you buy a license, and you'll get to use it forever. You'll also get up to two major version upgrades.
From the Reaper site: "Your one-user, full-use license includes up to two major version numbers worth of REAPER's famous frequent upgrades."
I don't know of any other company that even gives you one upgrade without cost. Usually at least 25% of or your original purchase price just to upgrade.
With it's low costs, frequent updates, and high quality, I don't quite understand how Reaper makes money?
A more interesting question to me is why is most commercial software so outrageously priced?
