Well... got the amp. It sounded good. I did a quick AB with my GB Streamliner head. At first I thought I liked the Streamliner’s smoother tone, but when I went back to the GK, it sounded like a blanket was lifted off my speakers. Fooled around with it a bit more and was digging the tones.

Then, it died horribly. Loud pops and crackles through the speakers, even while muted. I tried the speaker and power cables with the Genz - no issues. Looks like this one is going back.

Plugged my V4B in and boom, lovely warm tones again.

Holy moly! And the amp was new? Damn - really sorry to hear that. Nothing like a first impression...

Well the only good news is you probably got the only bad one from the factory for the whole year so the replacement should be fine. Your experience is not typical of any GK piece of gear I or any of my close friends have ever owned. Sorry to hear that happened, but hopefully you'll be back in business soon.

I think it imposible to build a production line piece of equipment and expect to get anywhere close to 100% reliability.
Botique, maybe but you still have to rely on the component supplied by others.
A few ghave to fail; thankfully GK has very few.

I don't feel like doing a serpentine belt and alternator.

Alternator is throwing an error, but it's been fine for a year.

Serpentine belt has been noisy after a radiator hose popped, think it just got some oil steamed on to it

They're serving appetizers, I wonder what's on the menu.

It super sucks everytime I look at tube prices and availability.
I end up hunting CL to see if anyone gives up an old stash.
Estate sales of guys that were into tube HiFi and such.

Yeah, those brands of tubes I keep wrapped up in the kitchen towel drawer bc I know no one will go in there.

I know a guy that threw out a bunch of 60's and 70's Ducati parts that made entire forums freak out.

The 700RBII died right away? Must have had damage in it already. They're bullet-proof from my experience. And yes, they are clean and very responsive. It will clean up your technique.

GK and died out of the box don't generally happen often.
I take them for granted like a Toyota truck.
Flip it on, abuse it, notice you have 300k miles on the clock and somehow you are 44 years old and the amps you bought in 1989 look better than you do now.
