Best halfstack

So heres the low down guys. I'm looking for a good strong half stack or something like that. Preferably one cabinet(like a 410 or something) and an amp. Right now I'm running an Ampeg pf 500 with an SWR 410(workingman). Should I invest in getting a new cabinet(like an Ampeg 410 to match the amp) or should I go in a different direction and move to GK? Whats the best half stack style rig right now? I want power and general affordability.

On the left is a Reeves C400/Reeves 410 half stack. Power and superb tone out the wazoo, but not exaclty bargain bin pricing. ;)

Dang, I bet it sounds sweet! I don't need bargain pricing just not a $1000 head and an $800 cab. I really am wondering if I should go Ampeg. I'm sure this SWR cab doesn't do the head justice. But I'd want a 4 ohm cab that could handle it.

The SVT 410HLF could handle it no problem. So could the 410HE, but it runs at 8 ohms and is voiced more like the 810e, whereas the 410HLF goes extremely low. Some folks like the extreme lows, but I've always been happy with the 810e's lows, and the wattage difference only gives you a slight volume bump, so I'd get the 410HE. Matter of opinion there, though. The Workingman stuff is good for what it is, but it is a budget cab, and it always sounds better to have a good cab. The cab is actually the most important link in the chain. You can have a crap bass and head and a good cab and it'll sound great, but if you have a great bass, great head, and crap cab, it'll never sound any better than the crap cab. Workingman cabs aren't crap, but there's better.

also, the smaller 4Ω cab can be a trap; it isn't that much louder than the identical 8Ω cab, but now you can't add another cab under your 4Ω minimum bass head should you need it.

a 4Ω cab should be big enough that you'd never need to add to it for normal gigs, like the classic 8x10 or 2x5, or even many 6x10s.

So I WILL notice a difference if I played everything through one of those two cans? As opposed to my current set up?

Power you get from the amp, not cab ;)

So, what kind of tone do you want from the cab?
