Best inexpensive strings

You don't have to change strings on a bass as often as you would on a guitar, unless you just like that bright new-string sound. Most of my basses have strings that are several years old, and I just replaced a set of Rotosounds on my P-bass that had to have been 10 years old. Splurge and spend $20-$30, you can get a great set in that price range. Ask your teacher (you do plan to take lessons, don't you?) to describe the differences in how the strings feel and sound.
