now, first off, dont put jaco pastorius we ALL know he's number one, but because he overpowers everyone else nbody else gets any credit so APART FROM JACO who is the best jazz bassist in YOUR oppinnion. (and dont argue saying 'this person is better than him' or 'he's not good' i want to know what ONE person thinks about why they put this person.

not why someone else thinks he's bad.

so come on!.

There are many to choose and I don't think any ONE is the perfect choice but I'll go with Jeff Berlin.

Well, you could argue that ron carter, ray brown, dave holland, or scott lafaro were some of the best jazz bassists ever.

Ray Shulman is pretty much my favourite bassist, and this is the first time I've ever heard him referred to as a jazz bassist. Gentle Giant's music was extremely structured and more akin to modern chamber music than jazz.
