Best Jazz/Funk Bassists

Hey guys on youtube there is a video of Kenny Garrett, Boney James, Rick Braun. and Kirk Whalum playing Always There. The bass and drums are on lock and the drummer is absolutely enjoying himself. George Duke on keys. Now this is jazz/funk. I don't know who the bass player is but he's funkin it out.

His tone is something else, real punchy and it is of course a jazz bass or a jazz bass clone he's playing.

Mingus, Brown and Chambers are teh only Jazz bassists you mention.-all are fantastic and would count amongst my favourites. :)
Neither wooten, nor Pastorius or Zender would fall into that category if you'd asked me...which you didn't.

Steve Swallow is a favourite of mine ( and the only electric player I could think of whom I'd call a 'jazz player').

Not sure about 'funk'... :)

This is Jaco aged 21 or 22. Pure unadulterated jazz. Considering his age at the time this was recorded, he was THE best electric 'jazz' bass player on the planet... without a doubt. And if he's not a 'jazz' bass player, then I guess I'll just have to re define my conception of what constitutes a 'jazz' bass player...

Yes, he too played some standards at times and in this case, to my ear playing Jaco much more than playing stella by starlight. :)
Having said that...he WAS young at the time.
