Best lightweight five string

There are a couple models with 605 in their name, both 5 strings, one is headless and weighs about 8 lbs, already noted in this thread, the other is SR and isn't light, about 9.5 lbs. Seems the lightest fivers standard scale are the SR305, already noted, and then up into the SR Premium level, the 1355. That's under 9 lbs but also around $1,800. It's the five string version of my SR1350B.

I've said it before but Ibanez builds to a price-point and the 605 is a prime example. It's essentially, as I can tell, a no-frills EHB priced at $899 which would go head-to-head with the newer Sire or Cort Space offerings...just my impression. It's not multi-scale though and employs some not-spectacular body woods. You could always add some Rubbermaid no-slip bathtub appliques.

I have two sire jazz 5 strings that I put lighter tuners on. 7.9 lbs. $550 each
My ehb 1505 is 7.5 $800 used.

My Ibanez EHB1505DR weighs in at 7lb 1oz and sounds very good with its Nordy pickups. A few months ago I saw a Sadowsky Metro Express for sale weighing 7 1/2lbs but it was sold before I could contact the seller!!

I'd be skeptical about that MX, since even the 4's run between 8.5 - 9.5 lbs. Mine is about 9.1. The ML with chambered body can be lighter.

At the the $995.00 price ceiling based on what I’m seeing in this thread Ibanez builds them. The Sandberg TM5 Super light is the one that I’m the most impressed with. But it’s three times your budget.

I have the SR 505 that I really like, but I think I’m getting an upgrade and a lighter Bass with the EHB605 picked out the blue one.
