I've goofed around on a friends Ken Smith 6, it was heavy. My "experimental" Schecter 6 (heavily upgraded) is heavy. When I look at Alembic's beautifully crafted works if art...they look heavy. I had the opportunity and did strap on a piccolo Alembic years ago and it wasn't too hard on the shoulder. But I had better shoulders back in the day.

That's certainly one of the best I've seen. They all look good but this one aligns with my taste. The long horn and chrome fix 2 of my bigger problems with many Alembics. Truly one of the most custom shops around for flexibility.

I caught James Taylor a couple of weeks back, with Jimmy Johnson, who has always been a big influence…quite accidentally. When I was starting on bass in the mid 80s my parents had this gospel album I jammed along to. It featured “Jimmy Johnson - Alembie 5 string base (sic)” lol. He played a short solo on one track which I attempted to learn. His playing on this album is astonishingly good, and unique.
Anyway, I’ve occasionally tried Alembic basses, but I’ve never liked the feel of them ergonomically. Obviously you can get used to things. But they are undeniably amazing instruments.
I was checking out their site as I’ve always thought a Rogue Series II might be the most sensible option. Then I saw this beauty and wanted to share:

I love any Alembic with some good old fashioned playing wear. They are gorgeous instruments that too often become closet queens. Play ‘em if you got ‘em!

For me, it is 100% Trip Wamsley’s 8 string Alembic. Absolutely gorgeous color.

I’ve grown to appreciate Alembic basses as more than a pretty face and recently acquiring this Serek Metropolis which has Alembic Activator pickups and a filter pre has only increased my desire for a “real” Alembic. The Serek with a roasted ash top is pretty sharp though!
