That's exactly what I was thinking. When she loses interest, OP has got a Kala U-Bass. It's a full sound, and practice can be done relatively silently if necessary. When she grows (if she sticks with it), OP can get her a shorty. Win-win.

Squier mini I tried was quite nice. I’d get that.

Alternatively I’d go with a Ibanez Mikro. Ibanez just has such a good track record, ime.
