Took me a couple years but I finally discovered Bill Laurance solo work outside Snarky Puppy and boy did it make me feel excited knowing there is also League on bass badass-ing out.
This take is an example of a perfect composition (to my ears), a perfect blend of old and classic, old and new, from classical music approach to jazz, to modern hip-hoppy riffs, enveloping everything into a non-ordinary (from a western music POV) harmony reminding of some more of the middle east influence, thus making for a great fusion tune. It FLOWS.
To boot, I believe this is my favorite mix I have ever heard in this genre. Nice stereo width (not the widest out there but to my ears just perfect) and a great sweet low-mid-ish sugary punch that doesn't strike like a basket ball, but rather just hugs everything together with that buttery sound character.
Bass sounds great here and those bass lines League creates in here are groovy as hell. How on earth is this not recognized more? 100k views? Really!?
Whoever mixed and mastered this is a motherf***r. Period.
Can we use this thread and talk a bit about how to achieve such sound texture? Which compressors? What tape effect? EQ settings (approximation), possible saturation, master bus EQ curve for this type of mix etc.?
I'm sure there are some experienced engineers on this site who know a thing or two about this. I would LOVE to create a mix in a similar fashion.
