Best Pedal Based Compressor?

Tech 21 Bass Compactor.
I just went through this process. I am happy with it, I tryed the EBS, Aphex even boss. I liked it the best, I was looking specifically for slap and the 2 band eq let's me change the sound for those situations. The Boss pedal just sucked BTW
Also had a long conversation with one of the guys at bassexchange to get a feel for what would match what I was looking for.

Oh also has any one tried the Analogman Bi-Comp or the Mini Bi-Comp, I'm very interested in one of these since over here they are about the same price as the EBS so I'm very very interested (Cos they look cooler).
I have heard it can squish active basses a bit, not a concern at present but I would like to keep it for a very long time and I will be getting a active bass or using my active 5'er alot more.

I think "best" depends on what you're looking for. I've got rather subtle/clean compressors in my Bassman 200 amp and Fishman Platinum Pro EQ Bass, but their effect is rather limited.
I've also got a Digitech "Bass Squeeze" that can be turned-up to have a MASSIVE effect (or turned-down to have a less noticeable effect).
Right now, I'm actually favoring the Digitech (unlike a week ago...), but "compression" in a stompbox really means different things to different people. Mostly, I'm looking to fatten my sound, for which a compressor really only plays a part.
A "real" rack-mount studio compressor generally has separate control over levels, ratio, threshold, attack, soft/hard-knee and perhaps other parameters. A stompbox without separate knobs for these things will by definition have to be limited.

Well I'm very much a set it and leave it sort of guy so I hate most rack mount things they always seem to have to many knobs.
I like the idea of a simple pedal compressor like the ebs or the analogman, I feel I do want something to slightly colour my tone, always for the better though and I think I will be going for a more vintage type of compression than a modern hi-fi sound.
I also want something that is more or less silent, I don't have any hum from my signal chain now and I intend to keep it that way.
Oh yeah and I want to be able to crank it and get that Tony Levin sort of tone (If only that was available in a pedal). So even when overcompressed I still want it to be quite musical sounding if that makes sense.
Anyway I'm only hijacking this thread because I don't want to start another compression thread.

For example, there's already a difference of opinion on the DBX160 in this thread. And now I'm going to add a differing opinion of the EH Black Finger, too. Someone posted that they thought the EH Black Finger was noisy and too extreme, or something like that. My impression is the complete opposite... I find the Black Finger to be very warm, powerful and transparent. It's quiet and, while it is capable of doing some serious squashing, it has a very natural sounding response. I use it both live and in the studio with great results. So, there you go...

i love my Black Finger. But i am very seriously considering getting the Bi-Comp to have something solid state. The tubes make me nervous in the pedal board. It wouldnt be any great loss to remove it from my pedal board since it makes guitars sounds phenomenal and i could use it for that purpose.
I'm also looking for a compressor...

BBE recently introduced their Opto Stomp Optical Compressor, which is selling at about $99. Unfortunately the things are on back-order with most dealers I can find, so there aren't any real-world reviews yet, but it might be worth waiting to see how that one sorts out. I know I'm curious about it.
I'd love to try out a compressor, and the Black Finger has been catching my eye, but the mixed reviews have me stalling. I cant exactly try before I buy because none of the places near me carry EHX.
