Been out of the R&B/Funk genre for a bit, looking for what's new/the best (in your opinion) light(er) gauge strings. I use GHS Boomers for my regular stuff, looking for something a little easier to pop/slap. I'll put the brands I know down below, please respond with any additional details. Thanks!

Best R&B/Funk Strings?

Funk is all I play. It's either Slinky's or D'Addario's for me.
I'm a huge fan of SIT bass strings. For what you're looking for I would suggest the SIT Foundations, either stainless or nickel depending on your personal preference. They're designed with a thinner-than-average hex core for flexibility and extra "snap and bounce". My son is a slapper and he uses the Foundations Stainless on his Ibanez.

Dr High Beams, and if you want something 'spongier' and a little easier on the fingers, Thomastik Jazz Rounds.
It's more about how you play than what you play. If you're playing with a light touch a la Victor Wooten then you might enjoy light strings like TI Jazz Rounds (the only ones I use) but if you dig in like Flea they're going to sound pretty bad even if you're playing exactly the same funk line.
You can look up signature strings of your favorite players like Wooten, Bootsy, etc. but your hands are where the funk comes from, not the strings.

that said rotosound 66 (FM funkmaster) sets are nice. but i'd probably use TI jazz rounds like @JonathanPDX.
What set are you using?
I use Boomers for slap. Specifically the extra light 30-90 set that I rarely see in stores. They're super low tension, stay in tune, and work well for this.
Give them a try!

At this juncture, I no longer allow myself to cringe at the equating of funk with slap bass. Not gonna do it
