Best rack preamp

One person's "best" may not even be a contender on another person's list of prospects, so it helps to be as specific as possible about your tonal goals, budget, and so forth.

There are lots of recorded clips on Basstasters to help you narrow down your search. I can't tell you if the clips will predict the sound you're likely to get from these pre-amps, but Basstasters could be a good way to supplement your search; if you can tell us which of samples come closest to your tonal goals, we might be able to steer you in the right direction.

Awesome! I'm looking for something that sounds big mean and aggressive.. My rig right now consist of svt-3pro and 410hlf I orderded a music man stringray5.

How do you spell Big, mean and aggressive? SANSAMP RBI.

Seriously.

I used one with a 3-PRO for years and it sounded great. I used mostly passive P bass types, but I'm sure a Stingray would sound equally great.

Nope but I have heard good things. I have used the RBI and RPM. They have similar voices, but the RPM has a parametric mid frequency knob instead of the RBIs Presence knob. The RPM is also gainier.

I found the control of the mid freq on the RPM much more useful than the Presence control on the RBI, but I liked the overall sound of the RBI better.

Both are great for recording direct, and most live sound guys will love seeing one in your rack.
