Not original.Well I been down So G*D Damn long that it looks like up to me. The Doors
I doubt if all that all that many of us can quote every blues song a lyric was "borrowed" from. I didn't see that as a "know it all" comment, just fact. The original was blues . This thread was asking for best rock Lyric nowhere does it say original . So MR Know it all go act like that somewhere else cause this place does not need that attitude.
"We built this city on rock and roll " -starship "Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo; Lordy Mama, light my fuse !" edgar winter !
Wouldn't know the person that made the comment if he-or she-stood in front of me, so wasn't defending. Did, however, think your post was unnecessarily hostile-or just unnecessary. I'd venture a guess that a large number of songs have lines that can be found in other songs. BFD.You missed the point there was no need for the comment at all . But then I guess you know the person that made the comment and came to defend him. The point was the OP was looking for Best Rock lyric ever. There was no mention of has to be original or anything so the comment had no place because no one said at any point it was original.
Just FYI: Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up to Me - WikipediaThe original was blues . This thread was asking for best rock Lyric nowhere does it say original . So MR Know it all go act like that somewhere else cause this place does not need that attitude.
I think it's "borne", not "born". That's what sets up the joke. Great song.We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won
As we sailed into the mystic
Van the Man
Ya get yer wife, dog and truck back.Yep, country is full of weird and off beat lyrics sometimes.
What happens when you play a country song backwards?
I rank "We built this city on rock and roll" as one of the worst lyrics of all time.
It's even worse than Take it on the Run by REO Speedwagon where they rhyme "it" with "minute".

Ah, the flat, midwestern "accent". If Starship wanted to be accurate, they woulda said "We built this city on reclaimed marshland"Agree on the sentiment on the Starship lyric.
I grew up about an hour away from the city where REO got their start. Not sure if Kevin Cronin came from there or not. But as far as I’m concerned, “it” and “minute” DO rhyme when you’re from north central Illinois.
