Best Slap Bass Player?

I don't say "Best" - its not a sport, it's art. I will say that I really enjoy the cleanliness and precision of Mark King.

I really comes down to what type of slap style you like. Machine gun Fast and full of notes, mid speed and melodic or slow and stanky! They are all out there!

Hands down, I'd go with Larry Graham - he invented slap bass for Pete's sake.

I'm not a big fan of slap bass, but I've always thought Marcus Miller was the best all around at it...very tasteful. Larry Graham would be my close second.

Louis Johnson should get more respect. He doesn't do much on the Brothers Johnson records but I got the Star Licks instructional tape and it's great. He says he invented slap independently of Larry Graham, which I believe.
