Best small practice amp ~$100

Just looking for a small practice amp for my house and not looking to spend much at all. Aside from looking used (which might be the best bet) what are your recommendations for something around $100. The Ampeg BA-108 looks like a solid choice to me but just looking for more opinions.

I have an Acoustic B20 and I really like it. I think you get a more bassy 'oomph' from a 12" speaker as opposed to an 8 incher, especially at low, low practice amp power. It's a little over your price range, but GC has sales/coupons/deals all the time. They'll probably have both of these at your local GC, try 'em both out. I haven't played thru the ampeg.

For used, craigslist is probably your best bet. I've gotten some great deals, including a 100 watt, 1x15" combo for $100 and I've gigged with it.

Hey there neighbor ... I have had a few small practice amps, and I keep going back to a little Peavey Minx I bought right there at Music-Go-Round in Duluth for $75 about 5-6 years ago ... I prefer it over some of the others because of the tone and clarity, in fact I liked it so much, I bought a second to leave at another place ... that one I got off Ebay for under $100 shipped ... I like a 10" speaker best for BR practice ... BTW, I will be up in D town tomorrow .. plan on hitting all the shops, Best Buy, Grand Central, and then MGR to see what they have that nobody else wants :)

Yeah I drive by MGR everyday on the way to work but I haven't made it in there yet. I'll have to check it out see what they've got. I'm headed out of town tomorrow but I live very close to the Best Buy...spend a lot of time messing around there. I think I might wait to do anything until I make it back to the KC area for Thanksgiving and hit up the MF outlet down there.

Another Minnesotan here. I've had a Fender RAD Bass (BXR 25 and a slew of other names like Rumble 25) which is 25 watts and a 10" speaker. I've used it with acoustic guitarists a lot. Great little amp. Like I said the same basic amp (all analog) has been in production for a long time. I've also played larger variations of the same amp, the 60 watt 1x12" speaker model. All worth a look. They generally don't cost that much on the used market.

I would recomend looking for a used amp , you can get so much more bang for your buck. I recently was in the market for the cheapest, smallist amp I could find for living room solo practice. I went to music go round and got an 90's era Fender Rad bass amp ( 75 watts 10 inch speaker in a small box) for $60. That was cheaper than any of the many small amps they had, most were only 10 or 15 watts into a tiny- tinney sounding speaker.

I could not be happier with the purchase, Its small and light enough to sit and use in my living room, yet powerfull and loud enough for coffee house style gigs.:bassist:

Yeah I will probably hold out for something cheap to come across CL or something (unless a steal comes across the Hot Deals threads). I have a LM-II and two separate Aggie GS112 cabs so it isn't like I can't just use one cab and the LMII but ideally looking for something even smaller and easier. Thanks all for the suggestions.

Peavey MAX110

Surprisingly this 20W amp blew me and my active 6 string Yamaha TRB-1006 away. The tone was crisp clear and it gave me without effort the low B's and beautiful C's -- At a medium 4 or 6 volume. Once you give it the beans it loses its charm, but for the volumes you need in your room it's the cheapest and best sounding amp I've played.

Bought it *-> Love it.
