Best strings for Fender Modern Player J bass?

First thing you need to realize is, there's no "best strings" for a particular bass; it depends entirely on what tone and playing style you're after. Do you want a bright, snappy slap tone? Or maybe more of a warm, fat, old-school R&B sound?

For that, you may want to give DR Fat Beams a try:

Marcus Miller uses these, so they've definitely got plenty brightness for slapping and popping, but I also like that they have enough warm low end if you need to dig deeper down for rock and blues. They're pretty affordable too; typically $25-30 unlike Fenders or D'Addarios that usually run $30-40.

That's just my own opinion, hope it helps.
