"Best" strings for Gibson SG?

So I have me one of those SG standards, and I've gone through several sets of all different kinds of strings, with a set of D'Addario short scale chrome flats on it currently. Previously I've had Bootzillas and DR's Marcus Miller set. These were all quite different but I was wondering if there was a "best" kind of string to put on a short scale bass that has a lot of low end without it sounding too muddy. Also, high tension is important.

I know it has a lot to do with personal preference, but does anyone know of a particular set that would suit this bass the best?

I recently put a set of Sound City flats on my eb3. I had to trim the wrap at the ball end to get them to fit. The problem with 30" scale compared to 34" scale is the E string just doesn't sound/punch the same. Larger diameter strings seem to help this problem a bit, but for 40+ years I've been trying to solve this problem too. I just installed a set of chromes on my LB75 and love the tone. What don't you like about them? I think I got a bad B string and on Monday I'm calling d'addario for a replacement. I hear customer service is great. BTW I'm very happy with the Sound City strings. So much so, my Gibson is now back in the gig bass rotation. I play mostly Classic Rock, Blues, and Country. Years ago I also installed a Model One with series parallel and that helped tame some of the thunder.

I own and play a 2006 Gibson SG and it too took me a while to settle for strings that sound best for that bass. Instinct suggests you want more-tension for the E string,..thus buying heavier sets of strings,..but dont do that. Go light or xtra light on string gauge,..you'll know why once you try em.

Ive used every brand of strings known to mankind. For my Gibson SG i prefer DR low riders in light gauge,..or La Bella light gauge stainless (vintage construction).

It just takes time to get used to the fact that yer SG bass is totally different than any long scale bass you'll ever own. If u spend the time and dedicate to the SG unique attributes you'll enjoy it alot more. Turn it up all the way too,...the natural distortion from the '63 TB pick ups is addictive,...crank that sucker!
