although I have yet to buy from him, TBer Mr. Majestic is known to have some pretty awesome swamp ash. I know of a lot of respectable builders that buy from him all the time (big names in the bass world!)

My sawmill has "American ash - southern production", I believe this is just a different name for swamp ash. Your basic sawmill stock will do fine, it doesnt need to be special to be made into a guitar - but if you want something pretty then Mr Majestic has some very fine looking blanks!

It depends where in the world you are. If youre not in the US then theres probably other species you could try

I have baought from Mr. Majestic, and his wood is very nice (Now if I could only get some from him at 1"-1 1/4" at a decent price I would be VERY happy). But all in all he is great to deal with and has high quality stuff at good prices.

I have bought many Swamp Ash blanks from him. The only way to go. Let him know how light you want it to there can be quite a weight range.........t

Thanks for the mention guys. I sell almost all of my 2pc bodies unglued. I usually sell them around 8" x 48" x 2", so whoever buys them can cut and match them however they desire. This also allows both side of your blank to be consistent with itself. That website tjclem put up is so out of date; I would not go there to see any wood, but I am picking up 2400 bd/ft on Dec. 30. and should have it processed soon after. I also have around 350 ft. in stock.

Swamp ash is only sawn to 8/4 at the mill, so the only way 1" or 1 1/4" swamp ash can be acquired is to either plane it down, or luck up and find some light weight ash at a cabinet shop(not very likely). You could get close to the 1" stuff if you were to resaw a thicker piece; it usually measures out between 2" and 2 1/4" in the rough.

Yeah, I knew that. That was why I was whining. My problem is I dont have anything that will resaw anything over about 5 3/4"-and that wont do it. Those 8"x 48"x 2" pieces you mentioned; If you had one at 2 1/4, do you offer resawing? And how much would that piece(s) cost? And how much wood would a woodchuck......uh, sorry, got carried away.
