Unlike another lucky poster in this group...
My wife will not be buying me a bass guitar this christmas, however, I am allowed to buy one for myself!

Just wondering what effect christmas might have on bass prices. I know there's a lot of sales on now, but are prices likely to drop after the christmas rush?

    Thanks for your help!

I would have thought you would have some buying power on Monday the 31st - the last day of the financial year.

the used market is always the best way to go imo. as for buying new, i would say after christmas.

If you're willing to wait, the really good used deals will start showing up mid January, after the December credit card bills start comming in. I picked up a Carvin BB75 last January for $365. After a setup and new strings I had a wonderful instrument for less than $500. I wouldn't take twice that for it today.

Last year, I got some great deals at Guitar Center during the first two weeks of January. I got a new Fender American Jazz bass for $400, for example. The best prices came during the period between New Year's Day and the start of their inventory.

I haven't been following the instrument prices, but I've seen other stuff going for less than usual right now. Perhaps people are spending their $ on new stuff.

buy after big spending times like christmas...people either got something they didn;t like or need to pay bills. Sell at tax return time and before christmas.

Best time to buy is after the holiday season or after a union worker layoff.
