Double Bass Best Two-Channel Preamp for Doubling?

By the way I've experimented with using tiny bits of overdrive on the upright for years. If correctly, it can be very nice, but not distorted. just kind of adds a little something to the note and the response of the instrument. But it has to be the right Overdrive. Some are just are just terrible. I'm not sure if the radial Overdrive is good or not
Yes, I have. I am using it for my passive Steinberger NXT electric upright bass (high impedance input A - 10 Mohm) and my active bass guitar (low impedance input B). Generally, I love the flexibility and versatility of this preamp. Yes, the eq for each channel is limited - Treble and Bass for input A, Highs ("Edge") and parametric Mids for input B. The thing is that the parametric Mids go as low as 50 Hz, so the Mids control can be used as another Bass control. Together with active equalizer on my bass guitar, this preamp allows me to have two instruments on the stage plugged into one amp. I am feeding the preamp by phantom power from the mixer-no need for additional adaptor. It has Mute switch and separate output for quiet tuning. The preamp doesn't have HPF. I am using external one (HPF pre) - usually with Steinberger only (before input A).

Thanks Ed I’m currently using the Radial BassBone V2 it has two channel, and a Pz blend it’s front and center on my pedalboard..I also use the Eventide Mixing Link, love it..I have question for you but I’ll ask via pm. Really enjoy your work and videos
yes I think I paid $250 for my Radial Bass Bone V2 and $275 for my Eventide mixing Link.thats way less than $1600 bucks
It was built in 1991. I sold it last March to Steve Azola. I believe he sold it recently. They are extremely difficult to
find, because Walter only built @ 50 of the higher powered MI series with the original pre amp. It never need any
servicing in 27 years.
I wonder who has that amp now?
I auditioned a trickfish head last week. It's a very nice amp. I didn't buy it because I have stuff already that works well, including Rics WW amp of similar power with two channels.
After reading this thread over again I noticed the trickfish 2 channel pre. I didn't need the head but I can make good use of that Trilobite for theater and concerts in the rhythm section.

When I first bought my AI Ten2, I also found that "slap, roots and thump bass tone", the mids were highly biased. After calling Acoustic Image to discuss it, they reminded me the manual stated to run the master at 3PM, and then gradually build my individual channel gain until satisfied. This seemed backwards to me, but ultimately, it worked beautifully, and I felt the mids sounded much more in keeping with what I wanted to hear, allowing plenty of low drive thump – ALTHOUGH I do notch back the mid controls quite a bit still. Also I really found I wasn't needing my Troll mic in the second channel, there was plenty of warm natural slap just from my PUP. So, when testing I was discouraged with the Ten2, only to find myself extremely satisfied after this adjustment.
But I have little doubt that our Ed Friedland, checked out every possible EQ combo in thorough detail on the AI, and I do agree their amp is long in the mids, hence my having to roll back the mids significantly.
I do also find with the down facing speaker that if there is just one foot of the AI not sitting solidly on the floor, the tone difference is simply just not the same. I now carry cheap little wooden wedges JUST in case I hit an uneven surface, such as a sidewalk, and one foot isn't grounded. I was surprised to find that cabinet grounding was so critical with a down firing speaker.
Is there any new information about this Paradox or the adviced review? First view looks very interesting...

Flip in my 2 cents worth. Use to plug my upright piezo straight into my Genz Benz STM, sounded pretty good, then I bought an older Fdeck, that sounded good too. A friend lent me a Zoom A3 not really made for bass though it does have a piezo input, upright bass modeler and you can add a mic. The down side being that the Piezo & Mic inputs can't achieve 0db so blending both is limited. Which set up sounds better? For the trouble the Zoom is I've decided to go back to basics and run the fdeck.
I too was on the lookout for a good doubling preamp, now I'm leaning more towards keeping it simple, especially for Upright Bass. I will mention I have recently switched from 10's to 15's and loving the warm tone. At times I'm lugging my Genz, a 15 Cab, preamp, upright bass because I want to get a good sound...... then...
I did a support gig recently to a UK band called Sharps and Flats (check them out on youtube) They toured in Australia and they travelled light. The Upright bassist had a travel bass with full circle into a D.I box, sounded great.

I've been using the Paradox for more than one year. It's great! I would ask for a 10 or 5 Mohm input though. Mine has 1 but still sounds great.
I asked Harun about this as well but he said the price wouldn't change that much and that it would be a waste not to have two channels!
what do these run in 2021? I can't seem to get through to the email on the website....
There’s 1 on Reverb you can check the price there. Frankly, these preamps are built in the Netherlands and would have to be returned there for repair.
Gollihur Music used to carry it’s predecessor the Acoustic Box I and stopped due to quality control issues. I’d take a look at the new Stanley Clarke Acoustic Preamp
from EBS or the Headway EDB-2 H.E. as well.

Must say, I'm still on the lookout for a suitable doubling preamp. The Stanley Clarke & Headway EDB2 HE do look interesting. I ditched my Zoom A3 & picked up a cheap Radial Bassbone OD, its been ok at blending a mic & piezo but the EQ section is a little underwhelming, as is the HPF. Not really useful as a recording DI either. mmm. I still get a better-recorded sound using the Genz Benz DI.
Lots of raves about the Grace Design Felix Dual Channel, its very pricey.
Then there's The EBS Stanley Clarke & The Headway EDB-2 H.E
