What's the best thing you guys have done to improve the sound of your bass (besides learning to play it)?

Defretting. Best thing I've ever done to a bass, and I'm so going to do it again with my MIA Peavey.

An Amp that delivers the tone you want. For me that's an all tube Sunn

Strings that suit the sound you hear in your head. For me... Fender 7150's

p/u that fine tunes that sound, if the current one doesn't achieve what your after. Again for me... Vintage Fender or Jason Lollar.

Lindy Fralin pickups in my MIA Jazz and Precision.

Gotoh 201 bridge on my MIM/A project fretless Precision.

Different types of strings have the most profund effect on tone.
  14. I agree. I think that changes in bridges, nut, pots and capacitors all pale in impact beside a string change...especially from rounds to flats, or vice versa.

Baird6869 RIP Gord Downey. A True Canadian Icon.

Vintage Tone Control (VTC). It is on my Sadowsky Metro 5 and I don't know why it isn't standard on all active basses. I am putting one in my Sadowsky NYC and maybe more basses.
