Best Vehicle for Bass Players

Whatever you get try not to get something that requires you to lift all of your gear out. Sliding it out is much better. My PT Cruiser works very nicely for me.
I use a Honda Pilot but I can also fit everything in my wife's Accord if I have to. Believe it or not Mini Coopers actually have a lot of room in them and they are good on gas.
Obviously, anything with a manual transmission

I've enjoyed the Mazda3 hatchback with the 5-speed. Efficient, sporty, practical, and good-looking.

While a bigger trunk sure does help, it doesn't take a lorry to bring you to your rehearsal.
You say your gear fits in a Toyota Corolla. If it does, then virtually anything that's about that size or larger will fit your gear.
My suggestion would be to try and find a car that you like to drive in, THEN check whether the boot is big enough. I'm certain you'll use the car for more than just driving around your gear. A Peugeot Partner would sure have plenty of room for your gear and perhaps even some of the gear from other band members, but there are more pleasant cars to drive in when not transporting gear.
For your interest, my '06 VW Polo fits a 3/4th acoustic upright.
If it is fuel economy you seek, and using diesel is not an issue, I'd keep an eye out for volkswagen TDI's. The same engines can also be found in Skoda's, Seats and Audi's.
These are very economical and still fun engines to drive.
P.S. No hard feelings to the Peugeot Partner. I picked a random example from it's class of cars.

I have a Nissan Frontier. Small little Pickup (4 cyl) with the bed carpeted and a top on it. Amazing for hauling gear. Horrible gas mileage though.
well i dont have a car yet but im saving for a old MK-III ford capri. tis a coupe so i have no idea how ill get everything in it. i think my bands guitar player may have to sit on the roof
I have an '05 Hyundai Elantra hatchback. Giant 4x12, giant Sunn Concert Bass, giant bass in a giant road case, pedalboard and a passenger. It took a little figuring out. Oh, and I'm getting about 25 mpg. Not bad.

The mid-size SUV rules in the rankings - and functionally. There's a good reason that they are so popular; they do many things very well.
I changed from a '99 Blazer to a 2007 Nissan Murano and it has AWD, swallows all my gear, is a comfortable and quiet town and highway vehicle, and gets acceptable gas mileage. Rear seats fold flat enough to sleep in, and the rear seats even recline in normal use! Win-win-win!

i have a nissan versa (hatchback) and it's pretty awesome for hauling gear around. I can easily fit my 410 and amps/pedalboard/a few basses. I have had several rigs in there at once without any real trouble. Also it gets 30mpg around town, more like 35mpg on the highway!

You didn't include Subaru's........Outback wagons are great cars, easy to load, lots of room, A.W.D. modest $$$$. Allows you more money for basses 
I have a Scion XB. Fits my Markbass rig (combo 2x10 and 2x10 cab) and three basses with no issue. I have put a 4x10 and a 6x10 with no issues in addition to basses. Never tried an 8x10. Gas milage is about 27/32.
Used to be back in the say... we would fit two 8x10's, my bass, a 8 space head, and an ENTIRE 6 Piece Pearl Kit. Into a 2 door S-10 Blazer
