Best video game music

My vote would go to Final Fight CD. An excellent blent of rock, funk, jazz and metal, and even a little bit of hip hop.



I selected a track in the middle that I think is a standout, but all of the music is worth listening to if you have the time.

I really like the music in Persona games, at least 5 Royal and 3 Reload.

Totally different vibe, but this game’s soundtrack is still amazing.


This is the new contender for amazing fantasy soundtrack IMO.

These are sick! I would love to know what your synth setup for Green Hill Zone was if you don't mind sharing. It sounds great.

I've been getting into a lot of Sega Genesis music recently. I started playing Shining Force on my phone and was reminded how great some of that music was.

The best sort of deep cut I've been reminded of is Sword of Vermilion. Most people will tell you it's not a very good game, but the soundtrack is like if Jan Hammer's score for Miami Vice was made into a sword and sorcery show instead.



...and then any time this topic comes up I have to mention what is probably the GOAT VG soundtrack to me. Sunsoft's Fester's Quest.

For the synth stuff I use the HX stomp models, normally the “Growler” block. I have been through most of the available synth pedals and only the HX tracks well enough for me. Haven’t tried the new MXR one yet though.

This one has a lot of synth action:


My god that Sword of Vermilion game sounds epic! Absolute gold. I will do some more obscure games when I’ve got some of the popular stuff out of my system. ToeJam and Earl is another terrible game with a great soundtrack, perfect for bass as well.

Final Fantasy X is one of my favorites. When a pretty girl in college played To Zanarkand on the piano is the moment I decided to marry her (which I did!). And the flipping battle theme, man. Come on.

Ooh nice! Yeah I can't necessarily vouch for the game. I did play it back in the '90s but I don't remember if it was good or not. How do you like that handheld? I've been thinking about picking one up to play old 8 and 16 bit stuff.

That handheld is great, really cool, it’s like my childhood dream come true. I have a few of them all from Ali express, under 30 quid.

Wow I had no idea how cool + cheap these had gotten. I got a CubeXX just now.

I have to say, ripping that hard in a full face Waluigi mask is really impressive. Nice work!
