Better bass cab?

My tone is suffering. It's too muddy and just...lacking character. You know? I play an MTD Kingston Heir 5 string through an Acoustic B100 and I think the speaker in it is really holding my tone back. So, since my birthday is coming up in a little less than a month, I've decided that I'll probable ask my parents for a new cab that can breathe new life into my rig.

First of all, it has to be able to match up to the impedance of my B100, which I have no idea what it is. Second, I was thinking of taking the head out of the amp and putting it in a neat little case and not having to lug around my combo and a cab to gigs/practices (that was kind of irrelevant, but whatever). Third, I want to know what will give me the most transparency in tone possible.

EDIT: Crap, I forgot all about the important stuff. I was thinking probably a 2x10, or maybe stick with the 1x15. And my price range isn't that big, maybe up to $300. My parents aren't really big on birthday presents.

i say go with a 210. it will abb more volume and punch in my opinion. its only 100 watts so you will need the extra volume!

Adding a cab to the combo will give the advantage of the new speaker, but at the same time, decrease the wattage from the amp. Acoustic's spkr ext is series.

Maybe your better option would be to find a better used combo. Separates will likely be more expensive, but if you can find a decent used combo, you would likely be better off.
Maybe a GK, or Hartke, or Peavey, or Markbass, or Fender, etc....in the used dept, some pretty cool options may open up for ya in your price range. Feel free to post what you find and get further feedback.

The Acoustic combo's are rated at 4 ohms, and contain a 4 ohm speaker. So, when using the combo by itself, it produces maximum power from the amp. The Ext Spkr output on the back is wired in series, where most other companies have a parallel jack. Being as it's series, the ext cab does not drop in impedance, but rather increases, which makes the amp put out *less* power. In the long run, you *may* get in increase in volume by virtue of the added speakers, but the amp will be providing lower output, so it could be a break even. Dumping that combo in favor of something better may be a better option.
