Better Pup's or Hot Rod Ideas for Peavey Grind 5 String?

It's probably a 2006 or 07. I got it new but I suspect it had been there awhile. Anyways, it's passive and I'd like to keep it that way so I guess the question is: Who makes really hot and or sweet passive pups ( 2 x soapbar humbuckers 1.5"W x 5 1/8" L)
that would be a "night and day difference" over the stock Peaveys in the NTB 5 Grinds? . I'm just thinking that with all the sweet woods this thing is made of (7 piece, yes I counted them many times, Mahogany with Maple "stringers" laminated neck) coupled with Imbuya (Brazilian Walnut) body wings. Very nice for the Price! My thought was that any weak link may just be in the pups. I mean it sounds sweet enough just as it is, great to play, but I'm inclined to think that the right perscription for the pups may really turn it into a total steroid opera hotty in a Warwick bathing suit! :cool:Okay, so that really didn't make too much sense, but I think you get the pic. Has anyone experimented along these lines? If it made sense to go Active, would the stuff even fit? Just asking any fellow Peavey fans out there.:(

I can't speak for the grind, but I hot rodded my corvette with some custom pups and it's now got a very nice voice, more open and organic. I even added a preamp, but I actually rarely use it, it's good enough as it is.

I suspect putting proper electronics in the grind will result in a similar improvement. What sort of electronics though :) Bartolini should make suitable replacements. I'd also check out Delanos and Nordstrands, Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio.

Hi - I also have the 5str grind and have somewhat related questions.

My main question is: how is the mechanical build quality of _stock_ builtin soapbars and are they epoxy-filled or left "open"?

If you replace pickups, could you please lookup how they are made and post here or PM me?

Secondly, I found out that stock PU's sound best if plugged in 330kOhm impendance input! No more, no less, there is a very narrow gap where they sound best and focused.

Thanks for getting back. I've had quite a few "distractions" here lately so I have have not yet made any pup replacements on my Grind, thus, having not yet removed the original pups I have no idea on your mechanical quality question but will keep you in mind when I can a.) get some good recommendations on suitable pup replacements and b.) scratch up both the time and money to move forward with the pup replacement.
Thanks for the 330kOhm impedence input tip though, I'll have to give that a try.
