Double Bass between EA wizzyM line and wizzy 10 with AI Coda

Hello
I see a lot of posts about the EA and AI combo and I'd like your opinion about my situation.

I live in France and have the AI Coda IIa and I'd like it quite ,even the downfiring system don't satisfy me a lot (volume and clarity). I play only jazz on a good doublebass with the AMT 35 mixed sometimes with the Fishman full circle.

I'm hesitating between buying an extension to make the sound clearer to me (not the audience) .
So, changing the speaker for the wizzy M line (or the NM208 but when??) to avoid the downfiring problem.
or the wizzy10 as an extension of the Coda.

My equipment is very similar to yours. I use a AMT S25B mic mixed with a Fishman Full Circle. I have an AI Series III Coda and have an Acme B1 extension speaker. I only use the extension for jobs in very noisy places, large auditoriums or outdoors and I keep it some distance from me to avoid getting feedback with the mic. I can appreciate you wanting another speaker to hear yourself better, but I think you will be defeating what you like about the AI Coda. Carrying another speaker cabinet around on every job would not be something I would want to do. I guess you could remove the amp section from the Series II Coda and use it with another speaker, but then again you lose the good things about the down firing speaker.

One other option you might consider is getting a Series III Coda. The Series III Coda is considerably different than the Series IIa that you have. It has considerably more usable power and is even less weight to carry around. I had a AI Series I Contra before I got the Series III Coda. The old Contra would get a little "muddy" when I pushed the volume up for big band jobs. This has not been a problem with the new Coda and I can hear myself better. If you have the opportunity, try a Series III Coda before buy anything else. It might be the right amp for you too.

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood your original message. If you don't like the down firing sound of your IIa, you're probably not going to like the III either.

So the wizzy 10 can be the beast.

What about the volume (in comparison to the coda II) and the sound, not too midrange ?

If you don't like the downfiring design, you should think about getting the Focus III or Clarus III head (less than 5 lbs, 400W in 4 ohm, 500W in 2 ohm. I would seriously consider getting the 2 channel Clarus 2R III, as the 2 channel feature with effects is very nice.

I personally have a Coda 2R, and I love the downfiring design. I use it mainly at church and in the local community orchestra, where an omnidirectional sound is ideal

you just need to see what speaker works best for your bass and your pickup/amp, I've tried alot of speakers that worked for other bass players but the ea worked the best for me most natural sound of them all, the only other thing that came close was I used on of my Magnepan monitors and powered it with my AI but that is just too much to carry around.

I'm very happy w/ my Wizzy M-line 12" and AI Focus III 2R. Incredible tone and packs a punch when I need to get louder. Omni-directional without the downfiring thing. The Wizzy M also sounds great w/my old Walter Woods MI-225 2-Channel head. For smaller venues and very low volume gigs I ususally take a combo amp, but the Wizzy 10 would probably be great for those situations. You can't go wrong w/ any EA speaker. It depends on what your needs are and what you're willing to lug around. The Wizzy M-line is about 33 lbs. Not heavy, but not as light as the Wizzy 10. I've never heard the Wizzy 10, but I think the Wizzy M-line 12" probably could get louder and has more low end even at low volume levels.

Like I always say about speakers, there's no substitute for mass.

I'm really considering the possibility of the coda with the wizzy 10 for extension because the weight and the price.
And because there's no possibility to try it ; I'm still undecided. Over and above ,now there's the possibility of the venue of the famous and never finished :crying: and ever desired EA 208 ;) ....and I don't find the level of his price on all the page about it. And how long will I wait.

So the wizzy 10 may be a solution in this waiting time. But noone try it live for now.
