Bi amp heads

If you really want to get more out of a good woofer though, going for a good preamp with a built-in-crossover begins to make sense because then you can use pro power amps which tend to be a lot more robust than what is found in heads as well as offering greater wattage - and then you can take even a great woofer to full excursion. With the fEarful 15/6 ferinstance, one can easily use a 700-800 watt side of a QSC PLX3402 for the woofer.

Thanks, I'm basically trying to replace the head part of a Carvin Cyclops 15x(2)8xhorn combo salvaging the speakers and adding a more dependable head.

Pretty good match for the Carvin BX1200 then - which is basically an improved version of what was in the Cyclops. At the surface it looks a lot like the Redline, but it's stronger, and has been improved in other areas too. It's a great little amp.

I'm really kinda scared of the Carvin stuff as, this one crapped out in the middle of a gig. I want to utilize the speakers and just rack a better head back in the combo cab so preamps / crossover / power amps are out. I need to keep it a head unit I can put in the original slot of the combo cab. Any ideas?

And yet you don't even know what caused the R600 to fail yet.

It could have been something as simple as the problems I told you to check in your other thread, that could have been checked and probably fixed on your own with no expense.

I would wait to see what the outcome is before getting yourself soured on Carvin amps.

Current generation Carvin amp designs are killer. The older Redlines seem to be iffy - some people have never had problems, some have.
