Big Al after a month

I hope this doesn't come out sounding gay, but I have to give you props for making it look good. Somehow it works for you. I could never get away it.

I think what you are trying to say is that it looks Super!

I still kinda dig the big al. If only it had humbuckers though. (which would be against the point of it so ignore me)

How heavy is the bass?

My bass weighs just over 9 pounds, I would highly reccomend buying from a place that already has one in stock if you are weight sensitive, as I've played some that are over 10.

strange that I don't like the look of the bass when it's by itself, but when someone wears the bass, I kind of like it!

Thats one of the reason I wanted to post some pics of it in action.

I do know that you can have them in either series or parallel, but they still sound thin like a jazz pickup to me. I'm a P pickup or humbucker type guy, I don't care to much for single coils. I would love to see some 'buckers in this guy.

The middle pickup solo'd is very very close to the sound of a Pbass IME/IMO.

I think it would probably work for a lot of people, although I fully admit that I don't think I'd do a jazz trio gig with it, even if it can give you some good tones for it.

are you a big dude, or is that bass body a little on the smaller than average side?

Its a little of both. I'm 6'2" and the body is somewhere in between a Stingray and Sterling in size I believe.

If you take out the battery, will it still work in passive mode?

Yep!

I love the looks of this bass. But I played it, along with a HH-5 Ray, 3 precisions (all new) and a Fender P-5 all through the same rig at a GC a while ago.

The P's all just came right along, the MM's I had to tweak and switch & adjust and still couldn't find a tone on any of them that made me go: Wow! I couldn't even get a "that's cool" out of it.

I want one, but not for retail, even discounted, they still seem expensive to me.

But the Big Al looks so cool! Damn!

Got to play one at San Jose GC. Fantastic feel all around. $1700 wooden temptation. I had to leave before it left with me.

Iknowright? I played the two at the SJ GC and they were both amazing, but that was when they had first arrived. I'm sure they're in bad shape by now. But anyways, I was very impressed with the tone and feel, and if I had more money to spend right now I'd order one for sure.
