I just tried the Big Muff at practice yesterday and love the tones but it just didn't seem to cut through when switched on. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something I need to tweak in order cut through the guitar and drums better?

my best luck with a muff has come when i put it in a loop and mix with a clean signal.

i got a modded Big Muff from "TheBigO",no complaints here,i wish i could tell u the mod but all i know is that is modded for better bass response and it works fine for me.
adding in a blend knob wouldn't be too tough...
i just bought one though, (little biggun) and i was wondering about this issue... I'm jamming with my friends tomorrow to test it out... might return it if it doesnt work out for me...

Yeah I had this problem for a long time and ended up never using it for gigs, used it on recordings though. But now that I have one of those buffered-blendable-loop pedals it's finally usable for live
I doubled the value of 4 caps inside the Big Muff (the in and output caps, and both tone caps). The reason that your muff currently has some issues cutting through is that those capacitors roll off alot of your frequencies, since the muff is really a guitar pedal. Once you fix those caps, your low end and attack remain, for the most part, intact (way better than they did before).

by adding a blend knob you either mean... making a DIY buffer circut and then figuring out where exactly to place it on the circut board.. or wiring an entire circut like a boss ls-2 and mashing it in the box at the input?
the idea of just adding a blend knob like you would on a bass to mix two pickups seems like i'd work... but its not that easy sadly..
but if adding a wet/dry blend to a big muff actually is easy or you... i would like to discuss getting one..
The nature of the Big Muff Pi is that it will make you sound like a huge guitar, thus, you will blend in with your guitars. I use my BMP especially TO blend in with one of my guitarists (he plays a Peavey 6505, and the MBP nearly matches his tone, but deeper and bigger with bass), which creates a HUGE wall of sound.
Yeah ..Salty, I'm kinda lost when it comes to the techie stuff but it sounds like it might be an easy solution ...so can you explain in more detail how you go about changing those capacitors, what kind of compacitors and where to get them?
Right... I just got a new soldering iron. (Yes, the "affordable" kind for right now.) And I'd love to crack open my Muff and switch some stuff around. ;-D

yeah i was thinking of the pickup blend type of situation. I would think if you split the input signal with one way going to the effect circuit and the other to one pole of the blend knob, with the output from the muff going to the other pole and the third pole going to output, it would work.

there is a guy in Holland who mods it to boost the mids instead of scoop them. I figure that would do the trick!
Don't know, I've never heard it. I just know he does it. I'm pretty sure it will help you cut through better. Don't know if it will be muddier, my guess is no, but I don't know nothing
