big muff pi w/tone wicker?

well, i have a boss ODB-3 that i can do without because i grew kind of tired of it. and i was thinking about trading it in to get a new fuzz/distortion pedal. after watching some videos and coming to terms of the fact that the EHX big muff is indeed amazing, i decided to search the used section of my local GC, and there's a BM pi w/tone wicker going for $75.

i searched before posting, and came across a thread from right before it came out. everyone was saying that it may lack in low end and that it was made for guitar more or less.
so what is the story with the pedal basswise??

It's the NYC Reissue (considered crappy for the most part on here) w/ a tone bypass toggle.
I just did this mod to my GGG-tuned Big Muff and it does sound pretty cool It boosts the signal and adds more mids into the muff by bypassing the normal big muff tonestack which scoops mids out, so you can cut through the mix easier.
You can always bring it back to GC in 7 days or less if you don't like it.
Make sure you try it in a band setting, before you return it.

the tone wick function is cool on any muff. however, with the NYC muff as the starting point, this is probably not an ideal muff for bass

look around and you can find a bass big muff (or some other desireable flavor) for the same $70.

I tried my guitarist's TW last week. Sounded great through my VT (used as preamp). Lots of gain on tap. Not as versatile as the BBM, of course. Didn't notice much in the way of low-end loss.

In general, the NYC Reissue (or w/ Tone Wicker) is the least-bass friendly. It has a more distorted fuzz feel rather than just fuzz or the character of your bass plus fuzz.

RC is correct. Look into a Bass Big Muff. I would also recommend looking into boutique or one-off builders to build you a modded muff after you research what type of muff you're after (there are multiple versions/eras that can be replicated).

Currently I'm running my signal through an Aguilar Tone Hammer, into the Big Muff with the wicker switch and then into a Sans Amp Bass Driver DI. After years of experimenting with different pedals like RATs and other Muff models, I've found that this one seems to tear through as opposed to fuzz up my sound...I just engage everything for my highest gain distortion and its brutal sounding.

Maybe another option to consider is getting your ODB-3 modded by Indymods. My Indy modded ODB-3 blows away most dirt pedals I've tried, and I have tried most of them. That butt ugly pedal has seen many big dogs come and go!

I think Nathan from Coalesce's odb-3 is indymodded as well.
Definite improvement in tone as opposed to the stock model.
