Help!
I purchased a brand new Mesa Boogie M pulse 600 head and powerhouse 1000 cabinet from Guitar Center in Sept. '05. In Jan. '06 a tweeter blew, and was replaced by a Mesa Boogie authorized repair center. Asked rep. at Guitar Center, where rig was purchased, if this rig was a primma donna or a work horse? He assured me this thing was a work horse and problems are rare.
In June '06, while auditioning (not playing loudly, for a new band in a residential home), a speaker made a crackling, blaring, sound only when a certain frequency was played in one of my bass lines.
I took the entire rig back to the authorized repair center and the Mesa rep. said to replace the 4-10" 100 watt speakers with 300 watt speakers to keep it from blowing. They wanted to charge me $400 to make the change. I refused to pay any additional money since my out of pocket expense was already over $3,100.00.
The change was made at their expense. However, I was very unhappy with the sound. It became muted, with no brights and the mid range was compromised. The rep. at Guitar Center suggested I replace 2 of the 300 watt speakers with 2 of the 100 watt speakers to recapture the original sound. I've yet to try this, as it was recommended today. I'm so frustrated paying top dollar for a bass system and receiving no satisfaction. I'm considering purchasing an Ampeg SVT Classic brand new and possibly an 810e. Although it would take me a considerable length of time to come up with more money, I'm that disappointed with Mesa Boogie.
I'd like input from other musicians who've experienced any problems with Mesa. Additionally, I'd also like to know if I keep the M Pulse head and change my cab to an Ampeg 810e or a 610 would that be a good alternative?
