Ok so today I recieved the worst shock of my life, ever.
Let me rephrase that. I wasn't shocked. I was flat out electrocuted.
So I was playing bass in my drummer's room with the band, just plugged into a tiny little practice amp, like 30W, the one that came with my first bass, and we were playing and everyting was going alright, then we stopped playing and started talking. So subconciously everyone has a tendancy to touch their surroundings while their distracted and talking, so there was a stand-up lamp next to me with a side attachment that had another light, one that you could bend and move, but basically just a regular stand-up lamp, plugged in and on. So all that I remember was I was holding my guitar, we were all still on and plugged in, and I inadvertantly grabbed onto the side attachment to the light. That was one of the worst mistakes I've ever made. All I remember is soon as I grabbed that, I stopped hearing everything around me, and every muscle in my body tightened up and I started seizuring, badly. The worst part is, when I say every muscle tightened up, I mean every muscle, including my hand which was still holding onto the lamp. So it instantaneously got so tight that I couldn't let go or control anything, and I had no idea what was happening, I just knew that something was wrong and I started slowly screaming "Oh my god!" because I really had no idea what was happening to me. When you get electrocuted and arn't even expecting it, you don't even realize that its electricity doing it to you. I felt like I was dying. The only thing that stopped it was I convulsed so bad that I actually threw my guitar across the room about 10 seconds after I first started getting shocked, and then the current stopped. When I actually thew my guitar down, the base part hit the bottom of the lamp, and some major sparks flew from where the two touched. So I think that for some reason touching the strings on my guitar and the lamp for some reason made a circuit and I was unfortunate enough to get caught in the middle of it. But being the curious monkey I was, without my guitar this time, I touched the light, and there was nothing wrong, no shocks or anything, and the light still worked, and my guitar still worked (because I went and played a show with it 2 hours later).
I mean, I've heard of, and even experienced, two guitarists touching each other if we're both not wearing shoes and holding our strings and we can get a tiny little shock, but I never imagined something this bad could happen from that.
I dont know what the electronic specifications on my guitar are, but something wasn't right, and I want to know what so that never happens to me again. My Guitar is a Schecter Stiletto Elite-5 with active electronics and passive EMG-Hz pickups.
Please if you have any idea what happened, please let me know.
