BIKER OR JAZZ GIG BASS HEIGHT

Random . You throw your Bass on at tonights gig .... a reasonably heavy Biker scene , and your strap is still set high from last nights heavy concentration "stare at the fretboard" prog Rock gig .
Who would automatically lower their strap to avoid feeling like a tool , and who would just keep it at the same height , even tho you could play this stuff with your eyes closed and dont even need to look at your fretboard all night ?

I wear my bass at a comfortable height. A bit higher than most guys I see playing around town.

I am also known for playing with my eyes squeezed tightly shut whilst making stupid faces.

So, I guess I'm a tool, who plays with his eyes shut, and drools a bit from time to time.

Nobody at a bar gives a damn about the height of your bass. They just want to hear the music. I don't adjust the height of my bass, it sounds kind of silly to do so.

They sure do. I hear tons of cracks about players who wear their guitars like neckties. No one is going to kick your ass over it, but the disparaging commentary will be brutal!

If I ever played a jazz gig, I'd first learn to play upright & bring that. For the biker gig, I'd bring my normal lowly-strapped basses.

I guess I'm too busy playing to hear those comments (I wear mine kinda high, same height as when I sit to practice).

My answer: if you feel you need to adjust your strap height for a bunch of bikers to look cool, then you really are a tool, you don't just have to feel like one.

I've played many a biker bar over the years. Some nice ones, and some where bullet holes riddled the walls.

There was at least one constant between them: nobody gave a hoot how high or low the bassist's strap was . . . .

I play biker gigs all the time. We've even played some private clubhouses.

Most bikers are great folks. They just want to hear good music and could care less how you wear your bass, and what bass you're playing.

FWIW, I usually play my maple Burl topped Sadowsky, and wear it somewhat high. No one cares as long as it's rocking.
