Birdsong Club Pt 2

Oh man - I love your idea for the dream Sadhana! Thanks for the kind words re: Edensong :) I thought I'd post some updates on my custom Birdsong... it's nearly complete! Fans of The Dark Tower should get a kick out of the inlay on the scroll...

Still plenty to be done, but she's nearing completion! Her name is "The Talisman." :)

Yeah man, I can't wait to see how that turns out, especially with those pickups....we need some clips when it's done!

Wow !!..I saw this on the builds page on the Birdsong site(and on facebook)...can't wait to see this finished and would love to hear sound samples.
I did call Scott last week and we discussed my Sadhana..What a cool dude...We're going to make this happen..

That Mahogany bass is RIGHTEOUS! Ah. You know you've been bitten by the bug in a bad way when Scott sends you nearly a dozen pictures of your completed bass (post coming soon!) and you already are thinking about the Birdsong on reverb.com - oi.

And so it begins.....it's a sickness. When will you have it in your hands? I'm dying to here a report on those pickups, they're some of my favorites.

I would also like to hear about those pickups. Scott and I had discussed a build that was kind of a nod towards the Gibson basses. Mahogany body and neck with rosewood board and a mahogany stain, would be cool if he was still interested in doing it. I pictured it as a Fusion with the Dimarzio instead of the stock pickup.

Have to sell my current Fusion hear on TB first though!

Congrats on your Sadhana! What woods did you choose? Standard Cortobass pickups?
I went with walnut(rear routed) with an ebony stringer and trim parts(knobs and trc),maple neck w\rosewood board w\matching headstock veneer(walnut),black hardware and standard Cortobass pickups...I was going to go with the single Delano pup and changed my mind at the last minute..only because I'm very familiar with a 2 pup set up and I also wanted the formula that made Birdsong what it is...I'm still in shock that I actually did this..very excited to say the least..

You made a good choice, the original setup is where it's at. I have the double hums in mine, and wish I would have went with the single....although I still love it!

I've seen this bass several times and was always intrigued by the double hb set up(not to mention the stunning beauty)..like a double Fusion..
I just had to have something I'm very familiar with, being a long time Ric player, I had to go with a two pup configuration and having one be a single coil, and it's placement is huge for me..in fact the pup placement looks very Ric like..
a single Delano build may(will) happen down the road, that pup is amazing...I'm thinking in a fretless or possibly a Hy5..
You guys are right..it's a sickness...lol

For looks, I like the double better myself. Any other reason you dislike the 2nd pup there?

It's not that I "dislike" it really, it sounds great, and "booms" a little more than the single.
I just REALLY like what the single does when you solo it and back the volume off slightly, it's absolutely perfect.
This bass actually has a pretty good slap tone, believe it or not, I seem to play it more aggressively than my "regular" Cortobass.

Anyone use a thumb rest on your Birdsong? Debating adding one to the Cbass, kind of like this...

I have a Fusion model (it's for sale!) and I've found that setting my thumb on the Fusion pickup is the sweet spot for me. I think something like the above photo would be ideal, and not get in the way of playing. I pretty much only rest my thumb for the E string, and use a floating thumb for the higher strings.

Has anyone had Scott add a thumbrest on their build?
