The last 2 maple on maple necks Birdsong necks I got last year are definitely bigger and C shaped.

Yeah, really think that looks nice and balance with the larger neck. I'm a Skyrider guy though, always liked that shape for some reason.
I have a special HY5 build on order now that I'm hoping made it to the top of the routing pile this week, is the Corto on the site yours?
Not the Corto5 pictured. I do have a Hy5 on order, number 87. I have been meaning to call Scott about my two builds for 2018 (the 5 string and a fretless fusion). I made changes awhile back and just want to make sure we are on the same page. I like the look of the C5 body design, so I hope that is what he is using on mine.

It is the Model "T" of the Birdsong line - built to Scott's vision of what it should be, not ours LOL. I've played enough different necks to know you can adapt to most any - after a couple weeks I'm mostly there

Seems like it would be a really good idea to call and ask Scott about the neck shape of whatever bass one is interested in.
Personally, I'm glad the new Shortbasses come with the "V-ish" neck. I want my new fretted bass to be as similar to my fretless as possible.
Yeah, I should check out if anyone here has one.....haven't seen any though.....I did email Scott quite a few years ago when I was thinking of getting another custom bass made and he had agreed not to put a V in the neck but I chickened out (silly me) and got a Landing DS2 instead (great bass and massive tone).

Very cool! I asked Scott about that model once and he said it was an attempt to get a fully functional bass as light as possible. GLWTS!

I have a question in to Scott about the neck profile. I was not under the impression that the neck shape had changed. I've always considered it a "soft-V" profile and it is, for me, hands-down the most comfortable neck shape I've ever played.

My personal feelings - I have one neck from an infamous 2006 "2-way truss, no zero-fret" batch, a 2007 fretless neck, a 2014 fretless neck (with the volute), and whatever ended up on Richard the Test Bass. Volute aside, the neck profiles are all pretty consistent. I'd say "very soft V".

I was just communicating with him through Facebook about my builds and mentioned the Talkbass questions too!
He did tell me the necks are somewhere between the C and V shape, and that where a soft V ends and C begins is different to different people.
Hopefully we see our favorite wood gnome soon!

1. so does the soft V neck actually help and make a neck more comfortable if you have small hands?
2. how light can the basses get? Does the featherweight really help with weight or would a chambered body work out better. All my other customs are chambered so they can be lighter than 6 lbs.

Sounds like it is a personal thing. I'll play mine as-is for 6 months or so to see if I get totally used to it - and hopefully even like it
. I suspect taking a sixteenth off that V wouldn't change the stability of the neck much at all. But so far the V does seem to give you a better anchor for your thumb than a C profile.I'd sure like to hear more from youse guys about your experience of adapting to the V from whatever you were playing before
. Or from anyone that had their neck reshaped 
.BTW the chromes are starting to settle in a bit - horribly metallic when new.
