Bitter-sweet Basses?

Here's the scoop..I recently assembled a bass from spare parts I had lying around,with the intent of selling it to recoup some funds from my 'Dream Bass' builds. The only thing I needed was a body,which I bought from another TBr for the modest sum of $50. I dug through forgotten boxes and baggies and put together a FrankenSquier P/J.

Total cost--$50

The "problem" is that even after two weeks of A/B-ing it against my other basses every day,it still wins out in every category,hands down,no questions.

This really makes me kinda sick to my stomach,knowing I had all this crap lying around for years,and it cost me less than the tuners on any of my other basses!

In the end,I am happy to have discovered this combination of parts,and I know I'm extremely fortunate to have my custom builds,BUT I could have saved myself several thousand dollars if only I would have tried to raise funds first,instead of recouping them..

Anybody else ever have an experience like this? (Does the nausea ever go away?)

Actually, this has happened a few times..even recently.

I picked up a VMJ for a great price, and had planned on swapping out the QPs for stockers and re-selling. Welp, that modest little VMJ blew the doors off my custom Warmoth build last night at a gig. Lighter, thinner, faster. Playing the Warmoth for the first 2 sets was like swinging a warmup bat.

I'm currently re-evaluating my ideas, but damn, I just have TOO many basses!

Every now and then, the stars align and the most unsuspecting bass will completely astound you in a great way. Likewise, every now and then a boutique bass that should knock your socks off is a big letdown.
